Detailed Description

An incredible day of challenging trekking in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a typical Dolomitic landscape. A hike for experienced hikers. Starting from the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe, we ascend through the forest to the Malga di Rit. Here we’ll find meadows with unique and pristine flora. We continue through incredible mountain scenery. We may even hear marmots whistling, spot them, and with a bit of luck, see chamois or even ibex. Reaching the highest point, the Jù di Sant'Antone Pass, we’re rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Fanes basin. Interestingly, transhumance is still practiced here today: cows are brought from the village of La Val over this pass to spend the summer in Fanes and return in the autumn. Continuing on, we’ll see these animals grazing and have the opportunity to stop for a refreshing beer produced at the highest brewery in Europe. The return is via Pederü. It’s essential to have a sure-footed walk, no fear of heights, good fitness, and familiarity with rocks and mountain terrain.

The initial ascent is in the forest and steep, followed by a short stretch of forest road that is almost flat. Then, we continue on a narrow and challenging trail, with the final part of the ascent being very steep on a narrow, gravelly, and slippery path. The initial descent is on a narrow trail, followed by a wide dirt road.
